About me, huh? Well, I'm Zach Reneau, but please, let's just stick with Zach. It's easier, and I hate formality. I've always loved to write, even from an early age (in grade school I would fake sick so I didn't have to go out for recess, just so I could stay inside and write stories.) I first got into poetry in seventh grade, but my true form blossomed my sophomore year, when I discovered beat poetry. Yes, I write mainly beat poetry. Yes, I realize beat is dying, if not dead. I don't care; I write what I love.
I'm attending college to become an english teacher. My hope is to be the one "cool teacher," the one you remember not for what you learned in the classroom, but because of the little life lessons you were taught. I also hope to teach students that learning and unerstanding literature is not pointless; it may very well be the most important skill we have.
Aside from writing poetry, I also write novellas, political theses and, of course, songs. I am a passionate musician, and I wouldn't be who I am without it. My personal influences as a writer are Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, J.D. Salinger, Anthony Burgess, George Orwell, Jello Biafra, Frank Discussion, and James Clavell.
My passion is ...
music.
I know too much about ...
Random trivia facts, Japanese history and culture.
My parents always told me ...
Work hard. I never listened.
My childhood ambition ...
I never really had one. I never wanted to grow up to have real responsibilities.
My favorite memory ...
You see, there's this girl...
Why I write ...
Poetry is the last true art form, and I intend to help keep it that way.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
I'm reading a comprehensive history of the samurai. I don't watch TV. I listen to punk, reggae and grunge mostly.
My first job ...
Was as an electrician's apprentice. I hated it.
My best moment ...
I love to write, but first and foremost, I am a musician. When I'm onstage, and my first two fingers roll across my bass strings and a solid riff is produced...that is my best moment.
My inspiration ...
Music, the news, other writers.
