About me - Renee Millican

About me

I am a college student destined to be a tattoo artist. I graduated with honors from my local high school in a small town in Mississippi. (Yes we have running water.) I love Mississippi, but I am about to experience what it's like to be a North Carolinian. My husband and I are about to lose both our home and our source of income, our eighteen-wheeler. Because of this, we'll be starting our dreams of tattooing and piercing about 3 years earlier than we had planned, but that's how life goes. It's just one big mess in the universe where sometimes you lose you left sock and others you find the car keys. In other more clear words, life is never orderly and sometimes it sucks you in while other times it brings you great happiness.

I have been married since December 31, 2008 to a lovely man who means everything to me. We have built our lives on the foundation of much hardship that, at times, kept us apart. We have two lovely kittens which we adopted from a local pound (a very bad one if you have read my Pet Adoptions Memoir) and we named them Loki and Typhon. From the best we can tell, they are black tabbies. Their faces are thinner than the average American Short Haired cat and their eyes are closer as well. I have a lot of expectations out of my animals and they have not failed me yet with their cutely chaotic ways.

While on the topic of animals, I have some dream pets on my list as well like everyone else when they see something furry (or scaly, slimy, etc.) and cute. I would like to adopt a Sphynx cat, a Savannah cat, a Mastiff dog, a ferret, and (drum roll please) a goat. Okay, I know. Why a goat? My question, why not a goat? They are adorable furry things with horns and beards. What's not to love?

Alright, enough about pets and such. I'm sure you would like to pick my mind about writing. I have been writing all my life and exploring uses of language to create certain effects in the reader.

"The fire moved like amber liquor over glimmering jewels..."
"The fire whipped and spit in Promethean rage over how humans used it to destroy instead of enlighten..."

Those two examples both describe the fire, but it makes you feel differently. The greatest writers are the ones that can evoke emotion from the reader. You can always say "the fire burned," but make it work for you. Use language to convey what you want the person to feel and to envision.

Some of my favorite subjects are Vampires, Tattoos, Racial Issues, Any form of creative writing, the violin, the piano, Germany, Europe, and many other wonderful evocative things. I even have ambitions to write a book (technically a few books).

When I write a story, it may come from a thought I had, it may come from a dream, or it may develop as I write. I want to include historical facts even if the story is set in a made up land. I want everything to be factual when I write an essay. I want everything to make you, the reader, think about the world and your self. These are my goals as a writer and as a person.

I hope you enjoyed this.

Vivica Francesca Louis let her long flowing ruby hair down and it fell to the floor with a thunk. She never cared much for having it up. She gazed in her hand mirror and traced the outline of her blood red lips. Her pale skin shone brightly against the darkness of the fleur-de-lis pattered walls behind her and her blue eyes glistened in the moon light. She approved of the image and sat the mirror down on her dresser. The walls were stained and shabby, but it was not horrible. She just could not leave. I long to go from this place for it is my cage. Marius will not let me leave though it is...
