I received my first journal as a gift from my mom when I was seven years old. The urge to write struck me immediately, and I filled the blue flowered pages with penciled scrawlings such as, "we went to the zoo today." Over the years I scribbled dozens of spiral notebooks, diaries with flimsy gold locks, and even post-it notes with reflections and ponderances.
By my college years, my desire to share my love of the English language with others was a calling. I decided to double major in Secondary Language Arts Education, and Theatre. Shortly thereafter, I taught high school English for three years in Wilmington, North Carolina, where I currently reside. Although I am not currently teaching full time, I do enjoy working as a private tutor for high school students in English and writing.
I now believe that writing is a wonderful way to glean knowledge, to voice an opinion, and to grow as an inquisitive human being. I enjoy many types of writing, from research to editorial. One of my favorite freelance jobs was when I was recently employed as a Freelance Theatre Critic for a local publication called Encore magazine. My articles can be found at their website, which is listed in my favorites.
I enjoy constructive criticism, and look forward to using Helium to facilitate my continued growth as a writer, and network with others.
