About me - Rebekah Aura Nemethy

About me

I am in, what seems like, the best part of my life. I have just finshed an education that has taken up my whole life. I have a part-time job that has nothing to do with my B.A. in Journalism from SUNY Purchase, but I have enough free time now to read and write whatever I please. This is the freedom I have been wishing for since the beginning of my memory.

Although working as a waitress and bartender can be a demanding, frustrating and at times a demeaning job, it also introduces me to interesting people I might have never known. Often, the inspiration comes in hindsight as I'm driving home, after the chaos starts to fade.

I am also one of the Chief Editors of Scalped, a literary magazine that features art, fiction and poetry. It is listed under My Links to the right, but be warned it is an adult magazine and censorship is nil.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Writing and reading fiction.

I know too much about ...

The drama at the restaurant I work at, maybe it will make a good book someday.

My childhood ambition ...

To be an actress, my mother always told me I'd be a waitress, well she was right but I'm a bartender too.

My favorite memory ...

The memories that push me forward are those of my teachers, from elementary school through college there were several that have complimented my writing. These echoes come back to me when I feel down about myself, they prove to me that there are people out there who will enjoy what I have to say.

Why I write ...

I can't help it. Sometimes it's a struggle, but when I'm stuck on a fictional piece or an article, there are always the uninhibited pages of my journal to turn to.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I'm reading "Gulliver's Travels" - very slow going

My first job ...

A summer job at a boarding kennel for dogs and cats.

My inspiration ...

The stars, some nothing but memories, glimpses of the past millions of years old.

Odd wanders into Magic Beach, California and expands his fry cook career by working for a retired actor as his personal chef. He’s been having a recurring dream in which, “The sea had throbbed as some bright leviathan rose out of the deep, and the heavens had been choked with clouds as red and orange as flames.” The dream screams of oncoming disaster, yet Odd is perplexed that he ...
