I began my professional career by crafting articles for a local newspaper in 2002 and was quickly picked up by the Pensacola News Journal as a features writer. I have written articles on education, volunteering, people, county, state and federal government, the military, religion, elections, theater and movie reviews, emergency management and travel.
I currently write a blog for Working Mother Magazine, known as "Heart to Heart" on the Mom Blog. I have done other nonfiction online journalism as well as writing copy for posters, brochures and flyers. I am an excellent researcher, able to search out sources for any topic and then turn around a story quickly to meet deadlines.
With my deep love of education, writing and research, I became a teacher because I figured I never had to stop learning if I was teaching. In a former life, I was a research associate for an international consulting firm. I loved the job because I got to travel all over doing interviews with city and state officials and researching the latest in technology. We told them how they could improve their services and save money. Doesn't sound that exciting, but I was writing about smart technology back in the 90s, way before the iPhone.
Now I use the research, editing and writing skills I have developed over the years freelancing from home. The best part is when I find an idea, research it and bring it to life. Even better is finding people so inspiring that you have to tell their stories. You can also find me as publishedanne on Twitter.
