I started writing stories when I was six, poems when I was ten. I always found solace in words, rather reading or writing them. This is partly what lead me to become an English teacher. I hope to help others seek knowledge and power from words. However, my words are often only for myself. I hope that writing for Helium will help me to improve my writing.
Usually, I write for myself. Writing has always been like therapy for me. Sometimes I need help organizing and prioritizing my deepest thoughts. And so I've written to manage the clutter in my mind.
Now, I am trying to write for an audience. To not only think of myself, but to consider what I can share with others. My published writing is limited. I have been published in my church youth magazine a couple times, but that's the extent of my professional writing. I do love writing for my friends and family- a dedication, a story, a poem that I think will make them smile. Perhaps writing for Helium will give my writing more purpose, and just maybe I will make you smile too.
Not that long ago, most people made their own cleaners.
