About me

I'm a fifty year old wife and mom who wants to know, "where has my life gone?" There are days where I don't feel like I accomplished any of the goals I had as a young college grad.

I grew up in the sixties and seventies, was marginally rebellious, loved searching for Indian artifacts. I hoped to become an archeologist, but also loved to paint and write. When it came time to decide on a major in college, I caved in to pressure from my over-protective mother and enrolled in our local college, majoring in Art Ed. I realized after three semesters that I had made a mistake, and changed to Fine Art. After graduation, I put away my almost useless diploma and went to work at various non-art jobs. Occasionally, I would submit an article to a magazine or enter a local art show. Nothing much came of my attempts, though, and I moved on.

I married my wonderful husband (we met in college art classes), had a child not quite two years later, and worked at being the best wife and mom I could be. I was a stay-at-home mom for several years, then moved in to part-time jobs and substitute teaching. I was able to be with our kids before and after school and during the summers. A big sacrifice, but very much worth it.

I now work as a Business Administrator at our church, and get to use ministry skills to hopefully make a difference in the life of the church. My husband and I have taken our daughter on mission trips, and all of us hope to someday spend lots more time in the mission field.

Writing and painting are again part of my focus, and I'm hoping to one day be successful enough to be freed up for mission work in another country. I hope this outlet is going to give me a good kickstart.

Creative Writing > Reflections Reflections: Being snowed in

As soon as autumn has passed, snow is on my mind.  In fact, I actually pray for it to happen.  And to hear of the possibility of snow makes me giddy with childish excitement.  Ever since I was a little girl, snow has been magical to me.  To awake in the morning to snow falling outside my window was almost as wonderful as discovering that Christmas had happened during my sleep.  Even now, as an adult, a snowy morning has the same affect on me.  Before this wonderful surprise can be disturbed, my husband and I bundle up in warm clothing and snow boots and walk t...
