I reside in Florida where I wait for retirement. (Still 10-15 years away.)
A native New Englander who has a Northern state of mind in heart and soul. I enjoy scribbling mostly about political, spiritual, or foreign affairs-mostly to try to get a rise out of people or to promote meaningful debate. The writing is for enjoyment.
I try not to take myself too seriously although I take matters that affect my fellow earth mates and the world adversely VERY seriously.
I have worked in social services (surprise..surprise) for nearly 25 years. I also enjoy fitness,good diet, and health. I try to meditate several times per week and have friends who are Buddhist Monks.

Is the United States a democracy? Or is it a republic? Most would agree with the republic model as it is a government of representatives who are elected to pass laws and legislation. The government responds to outside threats (real or perceived) and takes action as deemed appropriate. Again it isn't a democratic or popular vote that makes these decisions. It is two branches of government-the executive and congressional. By definition a representative Republic. Some would argue democratic in substance but republican in reality.
