John Rendace is a Helium contributor and college student from Illinois who enjoys writing on a variety of topics. As a history major, he is fascinated by the past and by the philosophies and beliefs of many different groups of people. He is deeply fascinated by scientific and technical matters, and has devoted a great deal of his time to studying these subjects personally.

He often writes reviews and informational articles in regard to Japanese animation and comic books, known as anime and manga respectfully. However, walls alone do not bind the things that interest him. A childlike enthusiasm best describes his fascination with nature and outdoors. It is with this same enthusiasm that he wishes to project onto his writing. Whether he succeeds or fails, he does his best to enjoy the writing craft and truly put his heart into it.

When Alan Gelfand developed the original Ollie in 1976, he probably had no idea that the modern snowboard Nollie was going to share a lineage. Gelfand, who is nicknamed Ollie, created the trick in an era when messing around in pools and bowls was the way to push extreme sports to their limit. He is a real legend, as is Rodney Mullen who created the flat ground Ollie in 1982. Eventually, as with many street skateboarding tricks, the Ollie made its way into snowboarding.
