My name is Maria Moore, and I am the author of Southern Summers (released April 2008) and If A Kid Ruled The World which will be released this year. Currently employed as a school guidance counselor, I am a veteran educator who has a natural talent for working with children. Throughout my past work experiences, I've taught and advocated for students and volunteered my time and energy to assist those in need. I have nine years of solid experience in the field of education that includes teaching special education, serving as School Accreditation Committee Chair (SACS), Common Assessment Development Committee Member, Local Educational Agency Representative (LEA), and Mentor.
I received my B.A. degree in Psychology from Georgia State University. I received a M.Ed. in School Guidance Counseling from Cambridge College, and an Ed.S. degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. Almost 13 in every 1,000 children under the age of 18 has some degree of hearing loss. Even a slight hearing loss can negatively affect academic achievement. While the magnitude of the educational impact of hearing loss will vary for each child, they will encounter language, academic and psychosocial problems.
