About me - Ruthie Lancaster

About me

If you lived in the little CA desert town of Trona you would probably know me as your Aunt Ruthie or Library Lady but since you don't, I'm Ruthie Lancaster; the hardworking Page of one of the best little libraries in the San Bernardino County Library System. That is really saying a lot considering I have never been in a bad San Bernardino County Library. I, also, work in the Trona High School library. As you can tell, Mr. Dewey and I are really tight. Seriously, I believe working in libraries is one of the more important things I do. My heroes are the patrons and staff of all library systems...we are the first line of defense against misinformation and for freedom of knowledge.

I also am a contributor to a few local publications. I try to help keep them up with events pertaining to the local school and the Trona Branch Library. One monthly magazine likes my "Dear Ms Know-It-All" column, which is primarily a nonsense advice column. No question asked goes with out being made fun of. I, also, write other humor stories that I call "Everyday Adventures". It is my greatest desire to grow up to be a cross between Erma Bombeck and Dave Berry in drag.

Reading, writing and NO arithmetic (mathophobic, here) fill up a good part of my days. I don't watch movies much because if the movie sounds interesting to me, I have probably already read the book. No special effects can match what I saw in my head while reading the book nor can casting match the faces I saw. Besides, the stuff cut from the book as irrelevant to the plot is likely to be one of my favorite scenes.

I don't even own a television set. I prefer to read the news on line and the only thing I was willing to turn the TV on for was to watch a NASCAR race. It is much cheaper to barge in on a friend on Sundays.

I'm looking forward to reading new stuff and having my stuff read on this site. Hopefully, people who read this will be generous with their advice concerning my writing. I'm looking to hear from you.

The Nature Walk Recently a friend of mine begged me to baby-sit with her five-year-old grandson. I explained to her that I disapprove of using non-family members as child care providers on principle and she should do it herself. In turn, she explained that not on the worse day of her life would she baby-sit and the situation was a total emergency plus she would pay me $5 an hour. Being it was an emergency, I agreed to put aside my principles for $10 an hour. The boy was sitting in front of the TV when I walked into the living room. "What are you watching?" I asked brightly.
