I have been writing for most of my life, but became serious about it in 1993 after my father, Robert Bayles died, so I could get on wtih my life. I am very involved with the Iowa-Illinois writing community. My poetry has been published in a number of literary magazines and anthologies, including "Lyrical Iowa", "The Rockford Review" and "Out Loud Anthology of Poetry". My fiction is also widely published in literary magazines, including "The Rockford Review", "The Nocturnal Lyric" and "Stand Alone." My writing has been featured on WVIK Public Radio, Rock Island. One of my poems just won the "Poem of the Year" for the Out Loud reading series, sponsor by The Midwest Writing Center.

Mud Play After the rain, when water and dirt make goo this play delights. What a sight it is, children covered in mud and laughing while splashing in their imagination, the ponds and lakes, when cleanliness forsakes, the delight they seek until the sun evaporates their dreams.
