About me - Jessica Barno

About me

I am a student from a small town. Growing up, writing was always a hobby for me, and my first experience with publication came when I was twelve. I won the Mid West Regional ACSI Creative Writing competition and had my story published in an American youth literature collection. The following two years that I entered the contest yielded the same results. My ego seemed to have been suddenly strapped to a rocket called confidence that had no where to go but up. Once I reached high school, my interest in writing expanded from purely creative ditties and anecdotes to research and journalism. I felt as if I were a detective solving mysteries of unknown and hidden information. It was reward enough for me to imagine that one of my compositions would eventually find its way under the eyes of some individual who would not only find it compelling and interesting, but perhaps newly informative and previously unknown. That hope and feeling has never left me, and today I write with the same purpose I wrote with as a child - to perhaps bless my readers with information, empathy, or humor.
