About me - Tom Calhoun

About me

When in high school I took a creative writing class. I wrote poems, short stories, and on occasion articles for the school newspaper.

In college I wrote several research papers as one does when in college.

Today I write articles to the editor, and comments on a variety of Blogs in our local newspaper.

I have never had anything published, however while in high school I did write some short stories that I never finished. My plan was to publish a book of unfinished short stories, and follow up with the finished version. I never really took the time to do such a thing. However it was a great idea, and now that I have a bit more time on my hands I may just persue such a venture.

I hold a Masters Degree in Education Administration, A B.S. in management and a few other minor degrees as well. I also teach students how to operate computers, and teach other students the art of a variety of business courses. I am a certified teacher in the state of South Dakota and have been for the past 15 years. At this point in my life I feel it is time to maybe get out of the classroom and turn my efforts toward other areas of Education.

Helium may just allow me to do something that I have always had a passion for and that is writing. I am geared more toward creative writing than any other form, but its a start.

I have had a variety of other jobs from Truck driver to retail sales, I spent 10 years selling Insurance.

I am married and have two grown children and a granddaughter that is a little over a year old, she is my pride and joy. My children are out of school and pretty much living on their own.

My wife is a registrar at an alternative high school, she has been there for several years. We have been married over 25 years.

I spent a few years in the military and was discharged honorably.
