When I tell my friends that I enjoy writing, most of them just assume I am talking about composing music. After all, music has been the primary love of the majority of my life, from elementary school, to college, to career. But writing has always come rather naturally to me as well. Heck, I used to get multiple emails every week from friends in college who would ask me to proofread papers for them. So now that I have a real nine-to-five job, I've found it liberating to get back to writing when the urge compels me. In many ways, writing reminds me of composing music or even improvising jazz. It's pure creation, but never completely unbridled. There is always a system. Just as in music, there is structure in writing, and adhering to a structure while maintaining a unique voice is a challenge I always look forward to.

Just the sounds of those words conjure images in my mind of glowing fiber optic cables, internet cafes, the soft blue glow of computer screens, and time-lapse depictions of cars moving in an endless blur of white and red. We as a society have "developed" to a point where we are not content to simply sit and watch the humble broadcaster give us a recap of the day's events. Good night and good luck evening news, but you need to keep up with the times. If we are going to watch the news on TV, we at least need the crawl at the bottom of the screen...
