Sandra Quevedo is originally from Ecuador and has lived in Miami since the "Scarface Days" also known as the late 70's. Her passion for writing developed in her early college years when she attended the local community college and studied Chemistry - inspired by family tradition she hoped to become a Medical Doctor someday. But as life turns, and it did... that day would never come. Continuing on a completely different path, Sandra worked most of her life in the Business Administration sector for companies such as United Way, Bloomingdales, University of Miami (in Research), Onyx, Kraft Foods International and now most recently with Sharp Electronics Corporation.
Eventhough she is an amateur writer, her passion could always be seen in her daily writings at work. She manages to find a way to practice her writing skills and express her passion, no matter the format, the vehicle, or the task-at-hand. Her ultimate goal is to write, write, write - even on a post it note.
Her first writing experience was at the well known local Miami newspaper "The Miami Herald," where she clerked her way through the newsroom as an assistant to the Vice President of the Spanish section "El Miami Herald." On demand, of course, she wrote obituaries, "quinces" announcements (the Latino equivalent of the Sweet Sixteen minus one year) and any other local events such as engagement announcements, weddings, graduations, etc., in other words, whatever no one else in the newsroom cared to touch. Surrounded by real writers, and living the "actual" newsroom experience, she was convinced of her love for writing, and knew she wanted to incorporate this into her daily life.
In her adult years, she continued to work for various local and national companies based in the Miami area, but her most significant run was with Unique Vacations [the worldwide representatives for the world renown "couples-only" Luxury Resorts- Sandals.] It was here where for nine years, Sandra had a chance to really practice her skills in the business arena. She dabble into all formats of writing, instructional, marketing, promotional and even creative-romance writing. She even manage to write copy for the famous colorful Sandals and Beaches brochures. It was then where her talents became tangible for her - as well as visible to others. In early 2002 (after September 11) a life situation catapulted her into quitting her job at Sandals, where she then teamed up with the local franchisee of a small Wedding publication [in the West Coast of Florida] called Premier Birde. After having worked in a multi-million dollar [Wedding/Travel] industry for so many years, Sandra knew her way around it. She was part of a small team which published the first two editions of this publication back in 2002. Shortly after, the franchise was sold, Sandra made a decision to return to Corporate America, where she continues to work on her writing on a part-time basis through sites like this one.
She considers having found Helium.com hitting the "jack-pot." Sandra has been a Helium member for about 2 years, and has submitted about a dozen articles so far with her first two articles sold to be published. Sandra loves being able to excercise her skills through a professional writing forum such as Helium.com. She welcomes any suggestions and recommendations any of the writers can offer.
Thanks Helium for such a great opportunity, I am happy to be a part of the team!
