About me - Janet Sandford

About me

Hi,

I'm Jan and you have probably seen me around on other writing and travel sites. I am sometimes known as Praskipark or Praski.

I am an artist and writer who works in acrylic, car spray paint, collage, pencil and charcoal and mainly writes about travel topics. In another life I was involved in consultancy and conference organising so you will sometimes see the odd business article published on-line. My other great passions are my family, travel, music and films.

I am co-founder of Praski Publishing which is a company my husband and I set up in Warsaw last year.

I am in the process of writing a couple of books; a Mini Guide to Warsaw and a Guide to Urban Parks in Warsaw. Hopefully one of these should be published in the Autumn.

I am living in Warsaw at the moment but have lived in France and Portugal.

The nettle plant has been described and used by herbalists throughout the centuries and many people have thought it to have magical properties. Old Germanic tribes dedicated the plant to the God of thunder and lightning and the Slavic tribes believed that it frightened off evil spirits. Because of this belief the plant was included in Corpus Christi flower wreaths and burnt during thunder storms to protect homes from lightning.
