I am a New Orleans native, living for the past 19 years in a small town about 50 miles to the north, where the economy, like New Orleans itself, is still recovering from the effects of hurricane Katrina. An only child of parents of Italian decent, although small, we are a very close-knit family.
For over 25 years, I have worked professionally in the world of health care information technology. Recently, I have established, with a business partner, a health care IT consulting and staffing firm. Being in business for oneself brings on a whole new realm of challenges, but I find it very rewarding.
I have always loved to write, and in business, was elected the point person to critique my colleagues correspondence. It was actually my father who unknowingly inspired me to truly try my hand at writing publicly. He recently wrote some memoirs for his one and only grand daughter, my only child. I never knew that he could write so well, or that he enjoyed doing so. I guess I inherited my passion for writing from him, and did not even know it.
I would like to think that I write well, or should I say, that I am a "good writer", because the two have quite different meanings. I know that I write well, however, to capture the interest of a reader you must be a good writer. I would hope that I am, however, regardless, I love to write and I am thankful that I found Helium to help me fulfill this passion.
Besides writing articles (400 - 1000 words), I also enjoy (and am extremely good at) proofreading and editing. Anyone having insight to share regarding freelance work, I'd love to hear from you.

What is depression, really? Basically depression can be paralleled with terms such as despair, melancholy, sadness, gloominess, misery, hopelessness and dejection, to name some of the most common provisos with which one generally associates depression. If one family member displays any of these conditions continuously day in and day out, does this affect other family members? You bet it does. Besides all of the above common terms associated with depression, I personally also associate depression with another term, "elusive". Why then, elusive?
