About me - Leigha Comer

I've been writing for as long as I can remember, and while I just recently managed to write my first chapter-length novel, I'm not quite ready to publish it just yet. I've still got a long way to go when it comes to writing, but that's what I love about it.

Arts & Humanities > Thoughts on Writing Guide to creativity for non-artists

Not everyone is born a musician, an artist or a writer. It's not always easy to simply pick up a paintbrush and create a beautiful scene, or grab a pen and write pages upon pages of captivating prose. For some of us, whether due to an artistic block or the simple fact that we just don't seem to have that artistic gene, being ... More..

Health & Fitness > Dental Treatment What to eat after your wisdom teeth are extracted
1 of 16

Getting your wisdom teeth extracted can either be very painful or a piece of cake, depending on how the surgery goes and the after-care. In my case, I was very fortunate: I had all four teeth removed at once with no complications, and by the next day I was eating hamburgers and pizza. I owe this in large part to the after-car... Arts & Humanities > Ethics Is freedom truly free?

I am lucky enough to have been both born and raised in Canada. As a Canadian, I've enjoyed a freedom that has been made evident to me for as long as I can remember. Teachers would drill into our heads the notion of freedom, and the fact that many people in foreign countries didn't have this right. I have always been grateful ... More..

Arts & Humanities > Writing Tips How to get over blank page syndrome

Blank page syndrome. The very thought makes me groan. I've experienced blank page syndrome since I first started writing. I suppose that in my case it would be best to call it blank screen syndrome, as I write mostly on the computer. I will open up Microsoft Office Word with good intentions. I plan on writing a great story, a... More..

Entertainment > TV Show Reviews TV show reviews: Big Brother

Since its first season, Big Brother has always been my guilty pleasure. Its concept is derived from George Orwell's dystopian novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four". Big Brother is the dictator of the totalitarian state described in Orwell's book, and by use of telescreens he constantly surveys the population. Similarly, houseguests of... More..

When I got my first game system, the Nintendo 64, I also received the game Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I immediately began playing, and it wasn't long before the game had me utterly captivated. Now that it's been remade for more modern entertainment systems, I've had the chance to purchase it for the GameCube, and the gaming expe... More..

Arts & Humanities > French Language Bilingual education in Canada's elementary schools

I spent my childhood in an area that was highly bilingual. The French and English communities seemed to co-exist naturally, and the large majority of my friends had some sort of education in both languages. Some preferred to get involved in French immersion programs, where a few of their classes were taught in English, and ot... More..

Arts & Humanities > Thoughts on Writing Muses and their fickle tendencies
1 of 9

I've always called my muse "Mary." Mary has the wonderful quality of vaguely resembling a police officer from the region where I live: she's never there when I need her, but is always lurking when she's unwanted. In my mind, a muse can best be described as water. Have you ever attempted to hold water in your hand? As you proba... More..
