About me - Magda Ess

About me

After several years of attending conferences and starting and joining writers' groups, Magda Ess will spend this autumn attending Hollins University. Although her major will be creative writing, her minor will focus on psychology. Ess uses her personal experiences with anxiety, depression, and childhood and drug abuse to reflect and help others in similar situations through her essays; her main preference for writing, however, is transgressive fiction. Her second novel was picked up by a now-liquidated publishing house, and she is working on a third, which she believes will go to steadier ground. In the meantime, she has turned a minor interest towards freelance writing and short stories.

Ess's free time is spent working on her transgressive culture magazine, Porno | Graphic.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

my writing, without a doubt.

I know too much about ...

societal deviants.

My parents always told me ...

worthless things I've ignored.

My childhood ambition ...

was to be a writer. Oh, look at that.

My favorite memory ...

is walking my late dog under the night stars.

Why I write ...

is to soothe and entertain myself and others

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

is probably something you're not.

My first job ...

was at Barnes & Noble, and I have yet to find a greater Hell.

My best moment ...

has yet to come.

My inspiration ...

is the world around me, from its beauty to its cruelty.
