After growing up in New York, Delaware, and New Jersey, I came to Boston to go to college at Boston University. I studied Occupational Therapy, but never worked in the field. At a dance at MIT I met the man who became my husband two years later.
I worked for 2 years in the Boston University pre-med advising office, and then for 6 years with the Venture Capital group at Paine Webber. At the same time I earned an MBA at Northeastern University. After these 8 years I became an at-home mother, eventually with 3 daughters, and started homeschooling when my first daughter was 7 years old. My youngest is now 17 years old and I am figuring out what to do when I grow up!
There are many organizations in which I have volunteered. I edited and contributed to newsletters for our local library, for the Massachusetts Home Learning Association, and my local chapter of Women's American Ort (the world's largest Jewish education and vocational training non-governmental organisation). My business skills have proven useful as Interim Treasurer for my synagogue, and as Treasurer of Voyagers Homeschool Coop. In support of breastfeeding women I was a La Leche League leader for a few years, and I have also been a Girl Scout Leader.
After learning to knit from my grandmother when I was 8 years old, I became a life-long lover of fiber handcrafts. I taught myself to crochet, embroider, cross-stitch, and needlepoint. For me, handwork is a socially acceptable way to fidget, and also keeps me calm in stressful situations. I now have a shop at etsy.com to try to sell my creations.
