Toilet malfunctions are one of the most dreaded household problems. Usually its minor, a fill valve(ball cock,) flapper or shut off valve. I have always taken this approach to toilet repairs: if it's in the tank, replace the fill valve and flapper (especially if you have a float ball in the tank.)
