About me - Alexander Darracott

About me

I have recently completed a Masters degree in Web Applications Development, with a research emphasis on how certain web based technologies can be used to enhance teaching and learning.  The thesis has been highly praised by the supervisor and subsequently is to publish the findings of the research an in academic journal, an accomplishment that occurs more at PhD level than at Masters level.  I attribute my success on the Masters Degree through the love of researching educational and technological topics and just as equally my love for writing about those topics.  I plan to continue the research of technology in education through a PhD.  The development of the research interest in technology and education, particularly investigating ways in which technology can be used to better the education system, has been inspired by my work as a tutor of adult learners and using technology to help others achieve their learning goals.  I believe that there is still much to learn and to experiment with regarding using technology to help teachers teach and to help students learn,

I have edited, contributed to and designed a newsletter for a day care centre, using a type of writing style that was entertaining but at the same time informative.  I believe that it is important to be able to identify your audience because different audiences react to different styles of writing and the tone and use of language to communicate ideas and the topic in general.  For example, an article written for business managers would appear different in tone and language compared to an article written for teenagers. The informative yet entertaining style of writing I used for the newsletter attracted a good number of readers and they read each issue from cover to cover.  I have also had articles based on computer games published in home based magazines known as ‘fanzines’, and I am due to begin a column for a local magazine regarding computing.  I am a newcomer, however, to Internet writing but I have the will and the desire to achieve and find success as an Internet writer and to fully master the techniques that contribute to writing effective, highly searchable articles.

My main writing interests, therefore, are computing and educational related topics but I also enjoy writing about business related topics particularly how technology plays a role in developing and improving business processes and also project management.  I have a growing interest in this field as I also plan to set up my own business in the future, offering I.T services such as database development, web development, as well as various writing, research and data entry services.  I have completed some online research and data entry before, and the person who I had worked for praised my online research skills.

Despite having specific areas of writing interests I am flexible with writing topics and have the ability to learn areas that I am unfamiliar with.  For example, I plan to increase my travelling experience in the future, which therefore could lead to an increased interest in writing travel articles. I believe that if you have a love and a passion for writing and research, you can write about any subject that you are given.  Firsthand experience does help in terms of providing examples that can be referred, but if there is a lack of writing skill those experiences are not going to be able to be portrayed in the most effective way. I believe that writing for Helium, for businesses, for publishers for Government, and for academic institutions go beyond the ability to write about your own experiences; I believe that it is just as important to be able to critique, synthesis, reflect and reference the ideas and experiences of other people.  It depends on the requirements of, for example, the business or publisher, and also for the audience the article is aimed at.

I have the pleasure of living in the countryside; I enjoy going out for walks and hikes.  I find the countryside to be very inspiring and have spent many an hour in the countryside forming writing and research ideas, and solving problems that I have come across.  Love the countryside, such wonderful views and it's a good way to keep fit!

Computers & Technology > Malware & Identity Theft The difference between malware, spyware and adware

Malware is actually a categorical term used to cover a range of different malicious programs whose intent is to cause damage to or exploit vulnerabilities of a computer system, and in some way leave it susceptible to further attacks.  Programs that manipulate, damage, alter or capture sensitive information, in order to steal identity or to use the information for other fraudulent actions, are also known as malware.  The real differences are understood through comparing the different types of applications that are classed as malware, which in the case of this question is spyware a...
