: About Me

I am a happily married, 50 year old living in Alberta, Canada. I live with my husband and daughter in a house we have lovingly renovated over the past 19 years. We have a 10 year old female tortoise shell cat.

As an amateur writer (very amateur), I came to Helium to broaden my horizons and find a writing style and fit. Many years ago I was accepted into the University Journalism Program, however life interfered and I was not able to pursue it. I have never been great at fiction but plan to try some of everything.

I spend my days as the Accounting Manager for a land development company. In my spare time I like to read, make jewelry, sculpt or write. I like to travel and hope to do as much travelling as possible in the next few years. There is so much of the world to see!

Canada's literary rate has dropped and we need to find out why, and how to fix it. If we don't, it is predicted that by 2031 nearly half of Canada's population will have low literacy skills. 48% of adult Canadians currently have below-standard skills. How is this possible? We pride ourselves on our education system but we are obviously failing to actually teach our children.
