: About Me

I am Desert Rat, born and bred. I am 55 years old. I've spent about 43 years as a singer songwriter. I graduated from university of new mexico with an English degree, heavy in Creative Writing. I released three albums, DESERT MAGIC, DESERT RAT, and LIVE FROM MOONFLOWER MESA. They all celebrate the desert and sense of place.They are avaiable for download on www.myspace.com/rjgarn. I've written many short stories and two novels. About 12 years ago i was diagnosed with a severe spinal cord disease, which meant I was unable to perform or record music. So I turned to writing. I worked as the Moab Utah stringer for the Salt Lake City Desert News. I was the main writer for Utah Fishing, and I published a fine short story in UNM's short story collection in 1997. Due to really bad problems with chronic pain and the medications i need to control it, I haven't pushed getting my writing published, but I feel better now and want to get back into the groove. Working from home and making connections on line work best for me.
