I'm a freelance writer living on a small farm north of Pittsburgh, PA, with my husband and two young daughters, a herd of cows, two horses, two cats, and one lovable Labrador Retriever.
I began my professional career in the mid-1990s working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as a community relations coordinator. My first television appearance as departmental spokesperson came as I queasily stepped off of a helicopter into the pouring rain amid more than 1 million burning tires. I quickly developed a desire to share stories and information with the greater world.
Later in my career, I managed accounts at an international public relations firm, served as Director of Public Relations at a respected liberal arts college, and acted as a marketing communications consultant for a major association of environmental professionals. Currently, I look for opportunities to write accurate, quality stories, blog entries, and other entertaining, informational pieces for a variety of readers.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Communication from the University of Dayton in Ohio, and a Master's in Corporate Communication from Pittsburgh's Duquesne University. I enjoy keeping tabs on the wildlife living on her 190-acre property, including deer, fox, skunk, turkey, various birds including a group of young bald eagles and the occasional black bear. In my spare time, I ponder theories related to the mind-boggling television series Lost, sew, bake, take nature walks with my daughters, and bury my nose in books, magazines and journals I feel can expand my understanding of the world and its many contradictions.
My passion is ...
my children
I know too much about ...
the environment, LOST, the Industrial Revolution, and the sinking of the Titanic
My parents always told me ...
I could be anything I wanted to be
My childhood ambition ...
was archeology
My favorite memory ...
is the entire summer before I started college - old enough, with little responsibility
Why I write ...
because I can't sing or dance. Seriously, I enjoy words and language - and because I do it well.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
everything I can get my hands on/LOST when its on, otherwise kids shows/songs from my youth that empower me
My first job ...
was waitressing and running errands at a Fire Department Bingo
My best moment ...
is when I can use my talent or knowledge to help someone else achieve a goal. And watching my young children grow, mind, body and soul, each day.
My inspiration ...
is the amazing world we live in
Clean, clear and refreshing water is something most Americans take for granted. However, as has been shown repeatedly through the years in various studies and surveys, American water, more specifically the source waters from which drinking water is drawn, is not as pristine as some believe it should be. In the United States, people obtain drinking water either from a water utility or from a personal drinking water well. Depending on your source of drinking water, there are steps that can be taken to ensure that your drinking water supply is as clean as it can reasonably be. Many Amer...
