For several years, I ran a nonfiction ezine called First Church of the Streets. The idea was that the sacred and the profane are intertwined. Presently, I am writing memoir about my experience with complicated grief while a teenager and young adult. This is new writing territory for me. It is an interesting adventure, and I am enjoying exploring and expanding my creativity. Most of the memoir itself is shaping up to be creative nonfiction. My featured article on this homepage is part of this tentative collection. I am using Helium channels to generate topics, and I am also writing reviews on books which I am using to assist me in the process.

I write because that is what I always wanted to do.
Lately, I’ve been talking to people about this idea of dealing with the past. For me, the topic is coming up a lot because in the last few months, my writing has gravitated towards memoir. I’m surprised how charged the subject of the past is for some people. I’ll say that I’m focusing on some era from earlier in my life, and all of the sudden I hear someone saying, oh forget about it!
