For the past ten years I've been having the same dream. It takes place in small mid-western town and has a heavy "Rockwellian" feel. Randy Newman and I are competing in a three legged race against two other teams consisting of Barbara Walters with Forest Whitaker and Sandy Duncan with Shimon Peres. Like always Randy and I leap from the finish line with a grace and agility rarely seen in this sport. We cannot be stopped. Soon we are well ahead of out lesser competitors. Just as we nearing the finish line Randy taps me on the shoulder, stops running and starts flossing his teeth. Every time - he does this. Every time - we lose to Duncan and Peres. I can't help but feel I'm missing something. Over and over and over I have this dream!

As a lighting designer I deal with light bulbs on a daily basis. It is my job to put the right light bulb in the right place! I've lit everything from a baseball fields to clothing stores and a thousand homes. I live and breath these things. If it illuminates I am required to know how brightly, with what color and at what cost. Halogen bulbs. Compact fluorescents. LED's. You name it.
