When my big brother started getting articles published in magazines I figured that I had to give it a try too. After all, he's just a little goofy and I'm fairly normal. I realized quickly that he got most of the writing talent, but I have a great desire to improve. That is my goal, (and unexpectedly an enjoyment also) to write and continue to improve my writing skills.
I'm also a teacher in a rural Idaho school. I love to watch the light began to flicker and then eventually shine brightly in the eyes of the children I teach. There is no greater profession!
The old man sat on the edge of the bed. His glazed eyes focusing on something unseen by the rest of the room. How long had it been since those eyes lit up? How long since a smile broke his face? What a tragedy! So unjust! Painful to watch really. This old man didn't even resemble the man he once was. He was trapped in a prison. The prison of Alzheimer's disease. But then. . . the old man's eyes light up and there is a brief connection with the man he once was. Three small boys, his grandsons, have just entered the room.
