About me - Phylis Cox

About me

Hello. My name is Phylis Cox. I'm married with two grown children, both girls. I have a three year old grandson who is the joy of my life.

My husband and I both retired from education four years ago. My husband was a superintendent of schools and I was a teacher. Although we're retired, we stay busy as officers of the local Kiwanis Club and volunteer at various places in the community. Now that we have more free time, we also travel and play lots of golf.

In addition to golfing, I enjoy quilting, crocheting, reading, writing, and occasionally cooking.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

golfing. Although I'm not a good golfer, I love being outside and that occasional great shot.

I know too much about ...

the devastating effect the "No Child Left Behind" program has had on public school education.

My parents always told me ...

that a person is only as good as his word.

My childhood ambition ...

I always wanted to be a teacher. I really can't remember wanting any other career.

My favorite memory ...

My favorite memory is at my parents' 50th anniversary. I had written a skit that my family performed for Mom and Dad. My whole family was together, and everyone was happy. It was a great day.

Why I write ...

Many times I write to sort out my feelings. That's why I write poetry. I also like the power of words.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I'm listening a Sarah McLachlan cd. I love her voice and her music.

My first job ...

I worked as an admitting clerk at a hospital the summer before I started my teaching career.

My best moment ...

It's hard to pin this down. I've been lucky enough to have several in my lifetime. Probably my happiest moments though, are when my children and my grandson were born. My family still brings my greatest happiness.
