About me - John Gregory Myers

About me

Hello Everyone!

My name is Gregory; I am a disabled Veteran of the Armed Forces and my career background is health care and health care management. My academic credentials encompass an MBA and Microsoft certifications in Office, and in the summer of 2009 I will begin law school for a Masters in Jurisprudence in Health Law.

My current hobbies include reading literature, research on mental health and health care law, writing free verse poetry and short stories, photography (35mm and digital), scuba diving and underwater photography, and paranormal photography; I practice the Martial Arts, I'm a musician and I play six & 12 string guitars, lap steel, and bass; love writing and playing music, and I'm a novice at Web design, as I've just developed my own Web site. I also like to spend time working on my house with various projects.

Most of my current writing works can be found on my personal Web site; please go to:

http://bipolarbutnotalone.com

This site is free and without restrictions. Most of the stories on this site are from personal experiences, as I am diagnosed with Bipolar I disorder and have fought with this disease and various forms of treatment for over 25 years. My site also includes links to many avenues of dual-diagnosis treatment as well as many other mental illness disorders and addiction facilities, books and CD publication companies, Web links to professionals and writers of various topics, free music, videos, and games. I believe you'll find this site very interesting and full of helpful information.

My love for writing began when I was in grade school, submitting papers on the usual various grade school topics. My writing really took off on more of a semi-professional level while in graduate school, where it was mandated to write articles suitable for publishing. This time period is where I perfected my method of research and utilizing "problems, cause and effect, feasible solutions, and final solution recommendation with summary". No way around this when you're in graduate school! Anyway, my true love of poetry began in high school where I took poetry & literature study courses and studied many poets and styles of poetry. Then years later, I just started writing poetry as a hobby. My main style of poetry is free verse, Quatrain and Diamante style. My favorite of many poets is D. H. Lawrence and William Blake.

My family and a few close friends are my main source of emotional and unconditional loving support...they, too have suffered alongside with me regarding things I have done in the darkest days of my illness. They have endured so much and they are still with me...God bless them! I feel they need therapy more than I for all they have put up with! They even like my poetry!
Go figure...

So...once again I am writing poetry and articles, whether if be in a Manic state, a depressive episode, or an even "keel" state of mind, and sometimes, regardles of any 'rapid cycling", they are definitive and acceptable, in my opinion. I write about anything and everything that comes to mind. My mind is always racing and never stops, and I attempt to put it all on "paper" because with a racing mind, especially in a manic state, I have a tendency to put grandiose thoughts and manic behavior down on paper.

I would like to dedicate all of my writing to my family and my special lady friend, who have always been there for me, through my times of mood swings, including severe downs, and my periods of extreme mania. Without them, I would NOT be alive today. "Though I am a man without crops or cattle, I am the richest man in the world with my blessings of family and love...I am, in deed, truly the richest man in the world."

Please read "Self Pity" by D. H. Lawrence; that small piece really keeps me focused.

Peace and live well, my friends! Best of luck to all of you with your writing. I hope you like my work. I am sincerely impressed by yours.

"There is no fate but what me make of ourselves."

Poem: "Know Thy Self" To know thy self Is constant discovery. Inserting a 'bookmark' into your life; An understanding of one's process of living. This is to be understood. Understood through mere listening; Teaching of great Maters as well, Learning life on a daily basis. Not a ritual, no books, But need formed through actualization. Listening brings actualization through 'self', As well from personal experience. The spirit controls, So let the spirit out, And the spirit will take form.
