About me - Laura Strebel

About me

Having had very little formal education and none in writing classes, I'm stumbling along with my soapbox and opinions, trying to learn what I can, where I can and loving life. Being a step or two off the beaten track; looking to find the deepest meanings and motives, the funniest coincidences, the oddest views of most subjects. Some will remain hidden, others will test the mental mettle of those who find themselves too close to the truth.

I learned at a young age to cherish moments and commit them to memory, keeping as much detail intact as possible so as to revisit them whenever I needed. Later, using them to remember what I'm all about and how I came to be the contrary, opinionated little brat that never quite grew up, sometimes running into situations that would make Alice think I'd joined her in the rabbit hole.

So, pull up a chair, pour a nice cup of hot water, select your tea bag carefully and grab your red pen. You've just become my teacher for however long my stories interest you.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Cats; law; the brain and it's effects on personalities both human and animal.

I know too much about ...

cancer

My childhood ambition ...

To be a veterarian, or pilot, or rodeo rider, or astronaut or scientist or...

My favorite memory ...

I have too many. Slowly they will come to life again in my writing.

Why I write ...

So that those who are different can know it's okay and for the multitudes of the rest to have an insight they would normally have to view through a peephole to see but not to understand.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Watching words scroll past, listening to my thoughts as they pick out words associated with memories and experiences and try to fit them into a pattern before they're lost, overcome by the next one and the next...

My first job ...

Fry cook in a greasy spoon at the age of 15. Quit when I found out my husband was spending my earnings to buy his girlfriend's dinners.

My best moment ...

Oh, there are far too many to single out one or two.

My inspiration ...

LIFE!

We fight not only the cancer but the guilt cast by others that surely we have brought this on ourselves and they think they are safe as I once did. There is little outward sign beyond a slower step, a sadder demeanor, and vomiting that usually goes on in private to spare others the sight. Fear slips beneath the eyelids t...
