: About Me

*Update at 9th July 2010* - Until recently I have submitted Helium articles under the pen name of Gillian Garner. For personal reasons I have now reverted to my real name; apologies for any confusion!*

It's difficult to pinpoint what I write about, as I tend to go through phases where I will write several pieces all at once, then stop for a while, before something inexplicable inspires me once again. As well as writing about my cats, I'm fond of reminiscing about my childhood and venting annoyances about modern life. I recently lost 75lbs so can also speak with some experience on weight-loss issues.

nothing. I'll never stop learning.

to stop slouching

My childhood ambition ...

was to be a writer or a teacher.

My favorite memory ...

I believe that my entire childhood shaped me as a writer, so it would be impossible to pinpoint one memory.

Why I write ...

as a release. It often awakens things within me I didn't even know were there. When I write, a thought which has never occured to me before, or a memory I didn't know I had, flows from me. It's like giving myself a therapy session!

My inspiration ...

Childhood, my cats, my sisters, my partner, road signs, overheard conversations, news stories... just the world and life in general!
