I am relatively new to journalism, but have been a creative writer all my life. In joining Helium, I hope to hone my journalism skills with particular focus on music reviewing, both live and recorded, and researched opinion based pieces.
I aim to review musicians' work from a musician's point of view. In daily life I am a working musician, and want to write about the views of the musical community from the inside...what it's like as a young musician starting out in the unpredictable climate of recession where, it increasingly seems, music and the arts are suddenly seen as luxuries, and could well be the first areas to suffer. I aim to investigate what music really means to us, and whether, in the long run, it may come to be seen as a necessity rather than a luxury extra.
