About me - Scott Kolecki

About me

I am a writer, songwriter, singer, musician, playright, poet, dreamer, guitarist and pianist. I have worn each of these hats throughout various phases of my life, and I am proud to say that from all the experiences I have had, I am the person you are reading about today.

By profession, I am an engineer, working in Nashville, Tennessee and enjoying my work a great deal. While engineering is the antithesis of the arts, dealing with absolutes and requiring the ability to work within stricter guidelines than most, it is also a creative outlet of sorts, one which allows me to support my more creative outlets without going "belly up".

When I am not working, I am a husband and a father of three wonderful children. My wife and I share a very happy marriage and I am proud to have her as my partner in this exciting, sometimes hectic and occassionally stressful life. She keeps me grounded but lets me fly at the same time...and I am very lucky to have her.

And then there is the creative me that I eluded to above. This part of me is the part that I understand the least, although I find that it is also the part of me that best allows me to express who I am. I think that my creative self is best aligned with writing. While I love playing the guitar and singing immensely, it does not come as naturally to me as putting pen to paper (or in this instance, fingers to keyboard) does, and I find that writing happens for me almost without effort, as though I simply need to move my fingers across the keyboard and the right words present themselves.

Please understand that I do not mean this in any kind of a conceited or self promoting way. Quite the opposite. I am often surprised at how my writing process works. For so many other writers I know, the process is easily definable. They work in this media with clear understanding of the writing they're going to undertake. For me, it's more of a "turn on the faucet and see what comes out." More often than not, I go back and re-read what I have written and will find myself revising and re-revising it endlessly. Probably a weakness I need to work on.

But I digress....still, I hope that these few paragraphs allow you to know me at least a little better. I don't know if this was a useful way to spend 5 minutes of your time or not-only you can decide that, but I do want to say that I certainly appreciate you taking the time to read my "About me" section all the way to the end, for if you are reading this, then you are there.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Writing, Songwriting, Playing Guitar, Music

I know too much about ...

is it possible to know too much about anything?

My parents always told me ...

"If you don't go, you don't grow."

My childhood ambition ...

Be a Naval Aviator...specifically, an F-14 Tomcat Pilot

My favorite memory ...

I can't single out one...opening night at a play I wrote, seeing my wife for the first time on our wedding day, the birth of my children....and not in that particular order...but those were some good moments.

Why I write ...

because it is the best way I have of coughing up all the emotional, psychological and mental "stuff" that's gumming up my insides. When I write, I feel as though I've cleansed my soul...and that's an honest answer.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Lisey's Story by Stephen King

My first job ...

Working at a gas station.

My best moment ...

Wow...tough question. Holding my daughter for the first time on the day she was born....Wow, if you haven't been there, then you just don't have the first idea what I am talking about. If you have been there, then no more needs to be said.

My inspiration ...

In music, Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley. In writing, Stephen King. For the rest and best of me, my wife Erika.
