After graduating college for Hotel and Resort Management, I left my house, my boyfriend, and my cats for a Front Desk position at a Fairmont Resort a couple provinces over. I haven't looked back since.
I must be a sadist to enjoy the near constant abuse and absurdity of guests that come in and out of the hotel, but I do enjoy my job. At least it provides me with endless cynical anecdotes and constantly refuels my sarcastic humour.
Not that every guest is rude and ridiculous; some are actually quite pleasant and go out of their way to thank you for things others just expect in turn. These are the guests that keep all hospitality employees ticking. We are people pleasers. We are always striving for the smile, the simple thank you, and if we are lucky: the guests that go above and beyond to let us know how happy they are with our service.
Besides my job, I enjoy writing. It gives me an outlet to say all the things I'd love to say, but can't. Everything that's tucked neatly away with a trained smile and the autopilot soothing lines can be poured out onto pages and pages. The best part? I can write in any style or tone. I can be depressing and melancholy, upbeat and optimistic, dark and brooding, cynical and sarcastic, humorous or cold and matter-of-fact.
Sharing what I write is another aspect I enjoy because, like I said before: I am a people pleaser. I like to be able to shape and manipulate people to feel or experience things in a way that they never thought of before. By writing an article, short story, or even a poem I can invoke feelings and thoughts for my reader, which is essentially what the reader is looking for in the first place.
So I do hope you enjoy my writing, and if not? At least take this old adage to heart wherever you may travel: "You can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar".
My passion is ...
life. Not really - who says that and means it? My passion is good food, a stiff drink, and a hot bath.
I know too much about ...

My parents always told me ...

My childhood ambition ...
to be a teacher.
My favorite memory ...
is cliched. Go figure.
Why I write ...
I find it relaxing.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
Will & Grace. At 2am, it's the only thing on.
My first job ...
singing at Lick's. They'll hire anybody.
My best moment ...
deciding to go to school after leaving, and actually doing it.
My inspiration ...
those espcially wonderful every day moments where I cannot help but be sarcastic and / or cynical. Why, yes! I -do- work in the hospitality industry - how did you know?
Many women today have veered away from the medically assisted birth in hopes to have a more natural experience during labour. Reasons may be to avoid the risks that medical pain relievers carry for the mother and the baby, or just wanting to feel the powerful experience that is labour in all of its natural glory. Whatever your desire, pain medications during labour can be minimal or completely replaced with natural coping techniques you can practice before even feeling your first contraction. When we think of natural birthing techniques, we often thing of water based methods, massage, and ...
