Hello, my name is Laurel. I was born and raised in an ultra-conservative Christian home in Lincoln Nebraska that squashed both my interest in religion (girls don't pursue full time religious work!) and my writing and music talents-which they aggressively disapproved of. To make things worse, I was born a gifted empath. Think TAM ELBRUM (STTNG "Tin Man") kind of ability. Not exactly in line with evangelical Christianity views, especially since my "gift", like that character's, was turned on practically since birth!
I struggled a LOT growing up, particularly with issues of religion. When I was traumatically brain injured in a traffic accident in 1985 in the 8th grade (fortunately left handed as the point of contact was my left temple), I lost all memory and got to start over! This actually led to acceptance of my gift as that meant starting religion over too-at 14 years old!
In college, i moved away from my family's home to pursue my own religious choices-my family is very controlling. I explored at least 15 different traditions before finding acceptance of my gift among the Wiccan/pagan community-and finally some peace with which to foster my writing talents. I have flourished as a writer and a musician ever since and in 2010 was ordained by a Brooklyn coven, the Dragon Spirit Coven. We hold our regular sabbat services on the sunday before (or on, when a sabbat falls on a sunday) each sabbat in Brooklyn's Prospect Park in a clearing next to the bridge joining the lakes in front of the Audubon Center/Boathouse.
Ordained at last and living in Brooklyn since 2005, I am very happy now and growing spiritually as I never dared hoped in Nebraska. Also, since 2010, I rediscovered my favorite show as a child, one that helped me deal with my difficult childhood: Benji, Zax, and the Alien Prince. I find there is something...spiritual about Christopher Burton that shone in his eyes back in 1983. i hope that as a grown man he is just as fine a person as he was playing Prince Yubi. Of course, I have my "gift" tell me layers of things watching anything that probably no one else can perceive. Not so sure if that is good or bad! rofl. But I do admire Christopher Burton for what my "gift" tells me about him. I can only hope he never lost all those good qualities when he grew up.

"In Your Eyes" In your eyes I see A world that can still be A hope that still runs free All in your eyes In your eyes there is a light That clearly knows wrong from right A heart of gold, a good foretold I see in your eyes In your eyes you wander far Searching from star to star Learning the man that you are Look in your eyes! From a boy you were blessed With a soul of tenderness Heart of truth and words of good Always in your eyes Ever saw I this great light Knowing your heart from the sight Of your eyes, your sweetest heart Here in these eyes! Now look eye to eye with me And in my e...
