My family and I live in a small town in North Texas not far from DFW. I grew up in Amarillo, but my heart has always been in East Texas where my ancestors on both sides had settled. Living where I do is great because I can easily do day trips if I want to in order to further my family research.
I have always enjoyed writing; bringing words alive through creativity and imagination. It's one thing to have an idea in mind, but to see it through to fruition is nothing short of amazing.
When I was in college, I always looked forward to English research papers and the occasional Biology or Sociology paper. Any excuse to write was right up my alley.
Since being out of college, I haven't had much of an opportunity to write, and then I found Helium. I'm hoping to re-tap into my passion and really make something out of it.
I love history! My favorite areas are The War Between the States and the Medieval period. My main personal research focus is 1861-1865 for various CSA Units. I occasionally research the Medieval era, though its not my prime area of research.
I am mom to two boys and two girls, ranging in age from 15 to 22. In fact, two of my children write here at Helium!
My husband and I have been married for 10 years. He has always been very supportive of my writing ambitions, and has believed in me when I barely believed in myself at times.
It is my ambition to one day have something published. This has been a dream of mine for close to 20 years, sidelined by raising a family. I really enjoy writing for Helium and I feel it is giving me the opportunity to hone-in on my own writing style. I look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with Helium and other Helium writers.

Don't Forget the Gloves, Doc! It was a beautiful day in May on the Texas Gulf Coast. The birds were singing, the sun was shining, and I was in hard labor with my first child. I swore to God Almighty that it would be my last. How do women do this? More precisely, what woman in her right mind would do this more than once? I had gone into labor at about 10:30 p.m. My mother and husband loaded me into the car and made a mad dash to the hospital. I wasn't dilated enough to be admitted at that point, so we returned home. None of us got any rest that night as I was forced to labor at home. Early ...
