January 25th, 1984, my mother was brutally murdered by a neighbor in a crime of passion, leaving me mother-less at the age of one. My traumatized father realized that he could not nurture a one year old girl, so my aunt and uncle, who had no kids of their own, adopted me.
Growing up, I always felt deserted by my parents, particularly my father. Depression and thoughts of suicide were persistent throughout my adolescence. I concealed this from everyone and never applied my full potential to any tasks.
