In attendance at my daughter's second birthday, along with many children and their parents, were a close family friend and her father. To Carissa, our friend's father was not just a family friend. He was "Grandpa." Grandpa, advanced in years, had been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's. That Grandpa had Alzheimer's was not advertised at Carissa's party.
