About me - Gregory Gower

About me

Born 1935, growing up and Schooling were mixed with a world in turmoil, most persons have the luxury of not experiencing bombs being dropped on them! Managage to gain 11 plus at the age of 13. Went to Westwood Sec Mod School then on to Dartford Grammar School. First job was training as a Compositor in Shoe Lane, Fleet Street. Another job in a Office. Joined the RAF in 1953. Was wounded in action in Aden 1955. Left the RAF in 1957. Became a Civil Servant and worked at No.13 Downing Street. Became kitted out in Bowler hat, rolled umbrella and folded newspaper and pin-striped suit. Became seriously ill with Multiple Sclerosis, not expected to live, but I fooled them all by staying on top of it all. Finally getting back to work with first, Electricity Board and later in British Gas Industry where I stayed until they felt they had enough of me. I left at 59 years of age. I am at present working as a Gardener, which I enjoy immensely. Since 1962 when I had MS I started to write volumes of dross, just to keep my sanity. None of which has ever been published. Later on when my writings became intelligible they were published, mainly for charities. Four books in total. As well as poetry I have written short stories with eerie twists at the end and finally I am totally mad, you have to be to survive! I am a singing/acting member and Publicity Officer of The Eastbourne Gilbert and Sullivan Society, a member of Eastbourne Central Methodist Church choir and Editor of the National Operatic & Dramatic Association South East News Magazine!

Projections of Pier and Bandstand and music that fills the Sussex air, the wonder of those on beach and hill in wonderment can only stand and stare. The distant glaze of heat that rises from the earth, a mirage reflects a crooked shore, so facing west towards Beachy Head, where colou...
