About me

My home is in Bray Co. Wicklow, Ireland. I was born here, by the sea, where, as a boy, I spent those long summer days spearing sand dabs in the cool sweet water of the Dargle River. I write in my library where I can see Bray Head with its cross. I cannot imagine a better place to be.
I have two sons. Conall is an artist and his website is www.conallart.com. Gavin is my other son. He is a singer/songwriter and he also has a website www.gavinmccabe.net. My wife Una is a teacher and musician.
I spent my working life in RTE, the national television and radio broadcaster. I was the head of broadcast engineering. My last major project was designing, specifying and project managing the delivery of TG4, Irelands Irish language Television Station. It had the most advanced Newsroom system in the world when it went on air in 1996. I got an award in Las Vegas at one of the NAB conventions for Innovation in Newsroom Design. I'm proud of that.
But I was always a writer as well as a practicing engineer and I wrote a lot of poetry and began a Gothic Novel while working in RTE. I have finished the Novel and am currently looking for an agent. In the meantime I continue to write and study.
I like the idea of Helium where you can write to a current topic. It is demanding in that one feels compelled to contribute and join in. It keeps your writing muscles in trim. I'm new to Helium and hope to get more involved and perhaps make some friends before long.

It was rare for anyone to descend to Verm's dark sea of echoes, except on th...
