My name is Rich Briggs and I work in the education field as a substitute teacher at a junior/senior high school in southwestern Pennsylvania. I just finished my sixth full year in the field and enjoy what I do. Among other things, I coach junior high girls basketball, I announce home football and basketball games, I sponsor our prom, and now our plays, and I am active in other school activities. I am working on the final touches for my permanent teaching certification. I substitute teach in grade levels 7 - 12, but I have also been in the elementary level and have substituted at grade levels K, 1, 3, 4, and 6.
However, I am a writer by trade and I write two columns for a weekly newspaper owned by a friend of my mine. I write a general column and a sports column. Another project I plan on getting restarted this summer is my goal of writing a young adult novel. That has been a lifetime goal of mine. Writing a book is a major accomplisment and I want to accomplish this.
I am a subscriber to the theory that it is best to know a little bit about everything than a whole lot about one thing. I plan on posting to different categories in Helium because I feel I have a lot of knowledge to share, and I also enjoy reading others' postings. I am looking forward to joining the Helium community.
