About me - Madysen Cheek

About me

I was born in the city of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, first of all. My father was in the U.S. Army and moved away before I was ever able to experience the culture of Germany or any of the surrounding European countries. In my early childhood, I wrote and drew more than any "normal" child should have, starting with horribly edited fanfiction and ending with my first novel, which I finshed at the age of fourteen and a half. (That novel is being edited severely at the moment, and I am actually going to attempt sending it out to a publisher soon.)

Last year, during the summer after my eighth grade year, I attended the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities and recieved training from a few of the most accomplished writers and creative writing teachers in the state of South Carolina. This helped me to further chase my dream of publication and I worked on completing a second novel shortly after my stay at the school.

I am fifteen as of now, and due to my age, I have grown use to the fact that my writing is criticized constantly as well as praised by those too frightened of hurting my feelings to give a straight-forward review. And this is what they don't understand. I am a writer, regardless of age.

It's how I expected to be treated, criticism and all.

During the times in which I am not writing, I love to run, walk, and make an effort at drawing more seriously than I've been doing for many years (as a bonus note, I'll mention that yes, I am a fan of Japanese anime). I'm also fond of writing songs, though I have yet to let anyone other than my older sister listen to them...

I actually love hearing what people have to say about my writing, and so I will gladly recieve any comments by email (urban_author@writing.com).

Creative Writing > Poetry Poetry: Regret

"A gift from God," your mother once said. Does that mean we're returning the favor? Elaborate is not the word, no, it's dreary. Oak wood with meaningless engravings and roses sown from the seeds of anguish, watered with the tears. They had always been your favorite and it's heartbreaking to know they saved the best for last. This is no presentable gift. Merely a package taken for granted, unappreciated, misused. Together we perpared, together we accepted but no sooner had denied, and together with hearts, not words, combined, we labeled you, "Return."
