About me - Allison Tannery

About me

I want to write. I've always wanted to write. I want to be able to write well. I went to school for 4 years to help achieve this want. But I fear all I can cobble together will be just another mom's hackneyed attempt at at being witty, compelling, informative, but I can't seem to stop myself from trying.

Where I used to have the ability to quote poetry, wax on concerning relative authors, comment on cutting edge musicians, do a decent bit of copywork, the process of becoming a mother and staying at home with those children has rendered me nearly useless in the more "interesting" aspects of culture.

However, I know an ENORMOUS amount about parenting, family, marriage, homeschooling, faith, diapers, discipline, pregnancy, hyperemesis, birth, c-sections, finding good physicians, post partum depression, antidepressants, maintaining a shred of sanity, good wines under ten bucks, bargain grocerying, clothing 4 children without taking out a third mortgage, breastfeeding, weaning, breast pumps, home organization and the lack thereof, and many other seemingly insignificant but extremely useful little tidbits. And I'm dying for an outlet.

I'm into my husband, my hair, my zoloft, my children, my wine, my God, my Mac, my lipstick.

I homeschool, I remodel, I procrastinate, I read trashy celeb gossip.

I dislike mayonnaise, wearing shoes in the house, the war in Iraq, my bellybutton after 4 pregnancies.

I'd really like to find a way to make a little extra money writing, get a boob job, a tummy tuck, and finally, a nap.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

all over the place.

I know too much about ...

hyperemesis in pregnancy, breastfeeding, depression, and potty training.

My parents always told me ...

if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

My childhood ambition ...

to be a writer. After the prima ballerina, concert pianist, and olympic equestrian deals fell through.

My favorite memory ...

anything since 1991.

Why I write ...

to find a place of peace, to feel understood, to get the cacophony of crazy out of my head.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

the buzz of the baby monitor.

My first job ...

dental assistant.

My best moment ...

I'm sure it's still coming.

My inspiration ...

I'm looking for it.

Sports & Recreation > Sports & Recreation (Other) New fad: Lawn chair balloon rides

As a young girl, I leapt from small stools with leftover party balloons, and fantasized about floating high into the sky, leaving the grassy ground below. I could gaze down at my home, and the people and cars around it, as they faded, faded, faded into the size of bustling ants. This fantasy? Now a reality. The new "sport"? Cluster ballooning. 1982 - the most famous balloon lift off by Larry Walters. With no helium balloon experience, and forty-two balloons tied to a lawn chair, he rose sixteen thousand feet into the sky! Amazingly, he landed without harm. Since then, those who know balloo...
