About me - Roddy J Dryer

About me

I am a writer. I don't mean writing is something I do as a hobby, but it's in my blood. I've been passionate about writing since I was a kid, and that passion has continued soaring since.
I have to say this love for the written word has placed me where I am in life, both good and bad. I am a published writer, so I know how much of a bitch it is getting that done, although once it is, it's an amazing feeling. It's a drug, really.
I enjoy fiction, and I have a thriller on an editor's desk now, awaiting publication sometime in the fall of '08. I have a few short stories in the litmag market, but that nut is tough to crack! Whew!
I've pubished a vacation guide back in '03, on the Central Florida tourism market. My book, 'Bringing Your Brain on Vacation', is still quite current in its information, so it will be made available again soon. My experience in the field of tourism in Central Florida is extensive; I've worked in the field for 11 years, and my wife has for over 20. She still does, but I have moved to another profession: Transportation.
I've made my living as a truck driver (I always wanted to do it) since 2004, but I've since moved into a supervisory position (since May '07) and now pilot a computer instead of a Freightliner. My point in this is that my areas of knowledge are broad, and my writing can show that.
I worked for Walt Disney World for most of my Hospitality and Tourism Industry career, and I've written training guidelines for Disney when I was there. Now that I am working in transportation, I have written guidelines for drivers, and I am presently working on a Training Manual for a contracted routing and dispatching management position between my transportation position and our customer. (The reason I'm doing this is because the position has had no written training guidelines or materials, and all training has been OJT and 'over the shoulder'. Since I could leave the position at anytime, although I have no intent to, I would like a comprehensive, detailed training guidebook in place for any possible replacement. Hey, I might win the lottery. I might get run over by a truck.)
I am presently working on a novel, but I plan to put its work in hiatus while I promote and market my upcoming release, entitled 'The Egocentric Predicament', and while I pursue some freelance work.
I still live and work in Central Florida, and maybe only a couple of weeks pass when I am not actively involved with the Hospitality and Tourism market. In short I know it well enough to claim sufficient expertise to write, comment, and talk about it. Since it is an area known about around the globe, and since I know it well firsthand, I can easily be a go-to guy for knowledge about Disney, Universal, Sea World, and a host of other smaller venues in the region. I know the area, and business of the vacation, quite well. Plus, since I've negotiated most of these roads in a semi, I know my way around!
If you're looking for a writer who knows how to negotiate the Central Florida/Orlando vacation market, or who knows a goodly amount about the Transportation Industry (have you seen the price of ##*@&&%* deisel?), or who knows how to tell a good story (No, really officer...) then please get in touch!
