: About Me

I have always enjoyed writing, particularly stories and articles. For many years, I not only wrote articles, but I was editor and proofreader for many newspapers. I have had the privilege of starting newspapers in Pennsylvania and also in Florida. One example was creating a newspaper at Alvernia Seniors College in Reading, Pennsylvania, and being its first editor.

I studied classical piano for many years, and also acted in school productions from elementary school through high school. I act in a theater group in our community. We have put on six productions on the stage in our social hall. The most recent one was a Night of Comedy on June 20th. Our Actors' Workshop staged a Radio Show in December , 2008. We were at the microphones reading scripts from Abbott and Costello, Helen Trent and Baby Snooks, to name a few. This was a fun evening , since the audience watched us at the mikes,and were able to see the cast members behind us using props for sound effects. I was happy that, for the first time in five years, I didn't have to memorize scripts. Our Troupe recently performed in our sixth show. It wascalled "Schtick Happens"; and most skits were comedic.  It was well received by our community and other guests.

The year 2009-2010 is an exciting one for Actors Workshop. We have three productions in the works, including acting in another community. Our "little family" is fortunate to work with a director, who is experienced and dedicated. There are times when I think of quitting, because of the pressure put on me to memorize scripts, but I am still acting with our group. We, as actors, are constantly being challenged and often "operate outside of the box".

I love all types of creative endeavors, which is what led me to being inventive when I cook. I have a collection of cookbooks, but have recently stopped following recipes. It's easy to create your own recipes, especially when you use fresh vegetables, herbs and spices. My preference is for Mediterranean cooking, but I also enjoy making Italian, Greek and Indian recipes

I also enjoy playing tennis, including competing in team matches, working out at our community's fitness center, and swimming.

I enjoy writing for Helium, and hope to improve as a writer. I also intend to write a lot of articles in different categories. So far, my articles have not qualified me for stars, but I hope future articles will merit them. I will continue to write for Helium, since it is a good avenue to see my articles in print. . I am still trying to earn stars, and realize I have to write more often for Helium. I plan to spend more time doing research, and entering writing contests.

Update:  I am looking forward to writing more poetry and articles for Helium.com, as well as reading articles submitted by other writers in this consortium.  It is so good to have a vehicle to express myself and have my articles or poetry read.

My favorite memory is traveling out west for thirty days with my husband and our three children.

Why I write ...

Because it comes naturally to me.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

At present I am reading mostly non-fiction books about religion; I love listening to classical concertos and symphonies.

My first job ...

was as a babysitter when I was twelve years old.

My best moment ...

was giving birth to my first child, a boy.

My inspiration ...

comes from the love I have for my husband, my children, and my grandchildren

I believe that non-smokers should have more rights.  One example is something that has mostly been solved.  That is smoking in restaurants.  The majority of states don't allow smoking in restaurants.  However, in some states, smoking is still allowed in the bar area and at tables located directly outside of the restaurant.  I do realize that, even if these states didn't allow smoking outside, customers who are smokers would still leave the restaurant to light up a cigarette.  This would still put non-smokers, like I am, at great risk from second-hand smoke.&nb...
