I take pictures of a plastic hippo in restaurants, grocery stores and offices. I'm funny that way.
I take my teenage sons hiking in the mountains and even though they're both Boy Scouts, we tend to get lost because I am, as my oldest son calls me, a "backseat walker." The training that they've received about obeying their parents isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Professionally, I've worked for several years with at-risk high school students who wear city issued jewelry and have more pictures on their arms than a coloring book has princesses.
I like to color princess coloring books.
My desire has long been teens who are lost and afraid but are too proud to show it. My experience in Special Education just reinforced my belief that the world doesn't really understand this remarkable group of young people. Because society views them as ne'er do wells, they miss the joy I've experienced time after time of watching a young person shake off the baggage that's loading them down and step up to be an awesome contributing member of society.
I married a bald guy in 1991 that I'd only known for about eight weeks and I don't regret it.
My oldest son is starting to drive and my youngest son just experienced his first kiss.
I'm a born-again Christian and I'm not ashamed of it.
I love to write humor whether creatively or personally experienced.
Lastly,in a house full of males, I'm not ashamed to play the girl card. Princesses shouldn't have to get their own iced tea, right?
My passion is ...
Youth. Particularly the lost youth. I'd do just about anything to reach them.
I know too much about ...
Lock-up, prisons, gangs, etc. I probably shouldn't watch those shows.
My parents always told me ...
that I wasn't being raised in a barn.
My childhood ambition ...
to one day fold my towels the way I wanted to and not the way my mother told me to.
My favorite memory ...
So many...meeting my husband, that moment of, "I do", bringing our sons into the world, when the Diamondbacks won the World Series in 2001...so many.
Why I write ...
there's just something wonderful about bringing to life what goes on in my head. That and I need to purge from time to time because of information overload. It can only hold so much.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
The steady sound of a fan on my desk.
My first job ...
Burger King! Polyester brown uniforms! Don't take french fries; they don't like that.
My best moment ...
teaching a high school senior how to tell time the "old fashioned" way. When that light bulb came on, it was awesome.
My inspiration ...
It'll always be Kristin and Bryan. I kept the promise.
You Danced With Me The night wasn't special The floors weren't even clean And the babies had been crying. My hair fell loosely across my shoulders And I wiped my brow with the kitchen towel My mascara was smeared and my lips were dry The flour exploded when I opened it And grease was flying out of the pan Onto the cabinets and behind the toaster I peeled the potatoes over the sink Then I tripped over the dog And stubbed my toe on the corner of the bottom cabinet Letting loose words I was normally ashamed to say While standing over the stove I quietly began to cry Wondering why I even tried...
