About me - Pam Brink

About me

I spent most of my nursing career as an academic with a focus on the blend of nursing and anthropology, the research process, and obesity. I co-authored two textbooks on nursing research as well as a book of readings on nursing and anthropology. I founded a nursing research journal (The Western Journal of Nursing Research) and served as it's editor for almost 30 years..

My peer reviewed articles were based upon my research : admitting heroin addicts to in-patient psychiatric wards; ethnographies of the Northern Paiute Indians of Nevada; a small depressed commuity in Eastern Kentucky, and of the Annang of Eastern Nigeria; as well as an NIH funded study of unsuccessful compared to successful dieters.

The articles that seemed to receive the most attention were on The Fattening Room among the Annang of Nigeria (Medical Anthopology 1989); The Patient as a Victim (American Journal of Nursing, 1984); Traditional Birth Attendants among the Annang of Nigeria (Social Science and Medicine:  Medical Anthropology, 1982); Childhood Memories about Food:  The Successful Dieters Project (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychaitric Nursing, 1999); Toward a Definition of a Successful Dieter (Clinical Nursing Research, 1993) and the Stigma of Obesity (Journal of Clinical Nursing Research, 1994).

I have been a breeder of German Shepherd Dogs for the past 30 years, showing them in both conformation and obedience in the United States and Canada.  My greatest pleasure as a breeder was to find a loving home for my babies.  Dogs have given me so much joy that I am delighted when one of my puppies forms a srong bond with the owner. They teach us so much.

My current writing interests lie with successful weight loss, religion/spirituality and a memoir of my childhood years as a prisoner of war under the Japanese during World War II in the Philippines. I also publish with Associated Content.

Religion & Spirituality > Christian Beliefs & Culture What is Christian love?

Christian love is a choice we make every moment of our lives to live up to the example of Jesus and his teachings. Love is a word we use every day to express a wide range of emotional attachments from simple liking to a passionate obsession. “I ...
