About me - Alexander Poe

About me

I was born at home in Lawrenceburg, TN on September 6th, 1987 at 10:54 a.m. I had an exciting childhood, memories of adventure and thrills. Elementary school treated me alright, although I had bullies along the way. Not many friends had come my way, but acquaintances I did gain. I spent most of my time in thought and journeying through the endless routes of the woods that lay at my doorstep. I lived fairly close to a lot of my relatives, the closest being my grandmother and grandfather in the woods south of us about a football field away. I was an athletic boy, not to say I am not athletic now, but I am no longer a boy, but a man. Imagination was my most precious asset and continues to be so.

When I was eight, my mother and I had moved to a nice, suburban part of Saratoga Springs, NY. It was not a place of our own, but they were my mother's relatives. It was different for me, moving from a small town in Tennessee to a much larger city in New York. I still did not know the reasoning behind moving at the time, although, now I understand the situation. My parents had went through a separation, for which, they both had done well, trying their best to conceal it from the kids. I had delved into the wonderful life of a city boy by now, attending Lake Avenue Elementary school. This, of course, was also a change, since I was put in remedial mathematics for several weeks, on the basis that Tennessee's educational standards where much lower then that of New York's policies. So the journey into the northern standards of life had begun.

I began struggling as I came to the realization that life was different here, not calm and tranquil as my small hometown of Tennessee. It was busier, hectic at times, trying to adapt to such a more socially involved world. People were different, not as open about meeting new people as southern folk were. Strife was much more common here, with groups of people hording in their "clicks" to provide a sense of security to their surroundings. I was not like that, I did not want to be like that. The difficulties through elementary school would continue, but one class will always stick out in my memories, this class was art class. You see, I seem to be a natural when it came to sketching; this talent probably derived from my father since he had delved into artistry himself. To be continued...

Arts & Humanities > Internet Writing & Blogging Can citizen journalism lead to a career as a professional journalist?

This is an excellent inquiry. Is one able to become professional through self expression? Well, I may recall many people who have done this same thing, such as Robin Williams, Will Smith, Dane Cook, Simon Cowell, and so forth. Although these people are not completely associated with journalism, they do share qualities of a person who stepped to the top through self-engagement. Now, through the perspective of a journalist, how might we correlate these examples? A journalist must have the ability to portray their thoughts clearly and concisely. It does not come natural to all that may write;...
